The Misunderstood God

I was given the privilege of reviewing the book by Darin Hufford, "The Misunderstood God". To be honest with you I knew by the title that this would be one of those books that I would not only enjoy but find myself agreeing with. It did not disappoint.

He starts out at the beginning of the book describing the God presented to him in church growing up. He says, "The God they told me about was not someone I would want to be friends with."

He then begins to paint a portrait of the God of Love. Each chapter takes a facet of love described in I Corinthians 13 and reveals how it is displayed in the heart of the One who is Love.. Darin exposes how the heart of God has been not only misinterpreted but misunderstood. The God many of us have known is not the God of I Corinthians 13:

Darin brings home the revelation of the effects of love. He says, "We spend more time trying to perform the effects of love than we do loving."

Many of us have been confused by God's true nature. Darin has taken the mess that religion has made and exposed a clear, beautiful revelation that God is love itself.

I loved reading this book and highly recommend it. If you desire a greater revelation into knowing what true love looks like, pick up Darin's book. You won't be disappointed.

This book sounds great! It is amazing to me sometimes when I see how God is revealing the same things to others that He has been revealing to my heart over the last few years. I am just amazed! Thanks for sharing this review.

I haven't read the book yet. I must. It is presumptuous for me to engage you on it without having read it. I am discussing it with someone who is currently reading it. I am confidant that I will find much with which I agree between the covers. Some concern already emerges nonetheless. The God of all creation is not only the God of 1 Corinthians 13. Or, His description cannot be fully disclosed only by an analysis of one of his many attributes. That too would be presumptuous when considering a God who in omni-everything. If when I read the book, I am counselled to discount biblical texts that speak to God's holiness that is offended by wickedness or that speak about his chastisement of those who willfully ignore him, I will have trouble trusting the good stuff that the author writes.

Julie- Just stopping by to thank you for your sweet comment on my blog. Thank you so much.
And what a great blog you have. It's wonderful to meet like minded believers and a fellow homeschool mom! (Even if two of my kids are now in school. ;)

Bless you and I'll keep an eye on your blog!

Hufford is nothing more than a "false" teacher.

I could not find anything in his book that I found as false teaching.

In fact I felt as if it gave a beautiful picture of the heart of God... one that religion has not presented.

I'd prefer not to debate this on my blog. I merely gave my review of his book.

This sounds like an awesome book that has tremendous TRUTH in it! I agree with Christy Rose...It is amazing to see how God is revealing the same things to many different people.

God's love is RADICAL and it is shaking the hearts of His beloved children!

Thanks for sharing about the book.

One more thing...

I love how God has shaken RELIGION out of your heart, Julie!

You are a woman after God's heart and it has been a beautiful thing to watch you grow in Christ's love during the past few years.
